Child Protection Procedures in Rowing. In 1999 the Amateur Rowing Association (‘ARA’) distributed a policy on Child Protection and decided that all clubs admitting juniors need to take action to implement this policy by 1st April 1999. The necessary changes to our constitution could not be made until the next AGM, which was September 2000. The relevant amendment to the constitution was made at the AGM and the club adopted the ARA Child Protection Procedures. The club has appointed Cat Darsley as Junior Development Co-ordinator and Steph Creasey as Club Welfare Officer, both of the appointments are listed on the notice board in the boathouse; this notice includes details of how they can be contacted. Members who are involved in the coaching of Juniors (any person rowing under the age of eighteen) are actively encouraged to: a) Read the ARA booklet ‘Child Protection Procedures in Rowing ’b) Attend an ARA sponsored Child Protection Course c) Obtain at least the ARA Instructors Award qualification Any person who has any comments on the above should contact Rob Roddis who will, if relevant, arrange for those comments to be discussed at the next club committee meeting.
