Cantabs Junior Dominance at Lea Regatta

The Cantabs Junior Squad had a great day out at Lea Regatta on Sunday 3rd September, coming home with several wins in both junior categories and senior categories.

Mia Beauchamp and Sophia Cicolecchia won W.J16.2x, whilst the boys’ equivalent was won by Robert Almqvist and Sam Askew. There was more double sculls success in W.IM2.2x, which was won by Franky Bailey-Tait and Emily May, in their last race together before they go to Reading University.

There were wins for two quads, in junior and senior events. Emily and Franky teamed up with Katie Oliver and Zara Parr to win W.IM3.4x. Similarly, Mia and Sophia teamed up with Izzy Ritchie and Eva Hill to win W.J18.4x.

Finally, there was also a win in the single sculls for Katie Oliver, who won W.J16.1x.

Lea is the final off-Cam regatta for the summer this year, prompting Junior Squad Coordinator Gary O’Shea to reflect on a busy and successful season:

We’ve been to Blenheim, Oxford, Peterborough, Sudbury and now Lea, in addition to Cantabs’ Cambridge Regatta. I’m always blown away by the never ending enthusiasm and energy of the Junior Squad. There is never an end-of-season feeling – just more enthusiasm for the next race!

The juniors will next be in action at Cambridge Autumn Regatta this coming weekend.
