New Cantabs record at men’s HoRR

Cantabs continued their recent run of success by achieving a club best result on the Tideway on Saturday 19th March, with the first eight improving on their previous best result by finishing 59th out of 334 crews.

Despite very different rowing conditions to the familiar river Cam, the crew of Steph Payne, Callan Swanson, Finn Grimwood, Ricardo Hereros-Symons, Hannes Burfiend, Jimmy Adams, Guy Fiddian, James King and James Quarrington coped well in the choppy water, overtaking two crews and comfortably moving away from the chasing pack. They were the only Cambridge-based crew to place in the top 100, and were 5th of the 62 crews competing for the Jackson Pennant.

Unfortunately the second crew was not able to race due to injuries. The third crew consisted of Hills Road rowers who had raced in the Schools Head just two days previously and were keen to build on their Tideway experience. They finished in a creditable 255th place, and were 34th of the 62 Jackson Pennant crews.

Cambridge News published an illustrated article on preparations for the race as well reporting on the outcome. Full results are available from the HORR website.
