Record-breaking Ouse Marathon for Cantabs

Congratulations to the two women’s eights who rowed the Great Ouse Marathon today (7th September 2014) and set a new W.Nov.8+ record, smashed the W.IM3.8+ record, and set a new record for fastest women’s crew!

The IM3 crew from the Senior Women’s squad departed from Denver Sailing Club determined to set a new overall women’s record, and conditions were favourable to that endeavour. They covered the ~21.6km course in a time of 1:39:38, very nearly 8 minutes faster than the previous Women’s VIII record, which was held by a Masters C crew from Loughborough (1:47:36), and more than 17 minutes ahead of the old W.IM3.8+ record.

The Racks Out crew were racing as novices, for which there was no pre-existing record, but they put in an impressive row to finish at Ely in 1:56:12, 29 seconds inside the old W.IM3.8+ record.
