Victor Ludorum award at Peterborough

Cantabs crews enjoyed a very successful weekend at Peterborough Summer Regatta, racing over 1km on Saturday 11th and 500m on Sunday 12th August.

On Saturday eight rowers from the W1/W2 squads raced in coxed IVs to win both Novice and IM3 events.  M1 won the IM3 4+, with their final time of 3:19.9 setting a new record for the event, and William Hardy and James Price won the Senior 2-.  In sculling boats, Susanna Holt and David Richardson won the Masters D 2x (men’s, not mixed!) and Susanna won the Women’s Masters D 1x.

Over the shorter course on Sunday, the men’s senior pair and the IM3 4+ were again victorious.  Klaus Brumann & Callan Swanson won the Novice 2x, Maria Larcombe won the Women’s Novice 1x and joined Mark Lawrence to win the Mixed IM3 2x.

The regatta awards a Victor Ludorum shield for the most successful visiting club, based on one point being assigned for each rower/sculler in a winning crew.  As Sunday’s racing drew to a close, Leeds Rowing Club were tying with Cantabs. Leeds had one race remaining…in which their strongest rivals were from City of Cambridge.  Cheered on heartily by Cantabrigians, the City crew helped to keep Leeds off the top spot.  The regatta organisers eventually decided to break the tie by awarding the Victor Ludorum to the club that had won most events: Cantabs!
