Cantabs crews cope with a windy miler

Last weekend six Cantabs crews competed in the Radegund Mile Head race. 54 crews competed, from College and CRA clubs, with the 45 VIIIs heavily out-numbering the 9 IVs.  A bracing headwind on the Reach meant that many crews were at least 30 seconds slower than their predicted times.

As is becoming a habit, two of the top three places were occupied by Cantabs, with the “Mega Shark” crew winning the IM2 category and overall event in 5:28 and “Giant Octupus” winning the IM3 category in 5:37, beaten by just one second by a City IM2 crew. The Aquaphobes were 4th in the Mens Novice VIII category, in 6:43, and the Poachers finshed in 6:56.

For the women, the W2 VIII (IM3) were pleased to finish in 6:53, placing them as 3rd fastest women’s crew, and W3 “Racks Out” (Novice) finished in 7:59. Both crews reported enjoyable races, feeling the benefits of training together in consistent crews.
