Cantabs Women

The women's section of the club is very active with members ranging from women who have rowed for many years and compete at high levels to those who are complete beginners. We are always happy to hear from new people who want to join the club whatever their experience and new coxes are welcome too!

Senior Women

Our senior women are split into several groups, based on varying commitment and experience levels to ensure that everyone gets the most out of training and fulfils their aims for their rowing. Our coaching team is strong and highly enthusiastic.

The group most dedicated to rowing trains 6 days a week, doubling up on training sessions for some days. Their goals are set with off-Cam racing in mind with the aim of participating in The Fours and Women's VIIIs Heads, Hammersmith Women's and Juniors as well as summer regattas including Henley, Wallingford and Bedford Quarts.

Competitiveness is still important to the other groups, which include a strong and active veteran women's squad, and aims of winning are still in place. Most of the racing that these groups do is on-Cam but they also make an impression off-Cam especially in the summer when regattas further afield become more important.

Small Boats

Most of the women in the senior squad can scull with many sculling competitively in a variety of events and with a number of club boats available for use. Sculling coaching is currently available on Sunday mornings.

Land Training

We have regular circuit training and circuits sessions are held on Monday evenings at the Rees Thomas School - the session is open to the men's squad too in order to create healthy competition!

The new boathouse is fitted with a weights room and the squad are encouraged to use it with the weight training plan which is written for us. Weights sessions are done in groups and you can book the room - currently weight sessions take place every Wednesday.

Novices

We are happy to hear from anyone who fancies taking up the sport and has never been near a rowing boat. Novice sessions are held on a Sunday at 9am, coached by the senior women. New novices are started off with sessions on rowing machines and in the stable tub boat and virus sculls before joining the novice sweep oar group or continuing with sculling as they wish.
